SPECIAL EVENTS
Information about what's happening in France

France is like any other country in its heritage and culture, and enjoys a wide range of special events: some are small, local and easily missed; others are on a huge scale. All are immensely enjoyable, and offer the opportunity to add something special to your visit to this remarkable country.

March 2013:

7th to 10th: BLACK WEEK END: LIVE MUSIC AND WILD SKIING!

A reference in mountain music festivals, the Black Week End hits the slopes again in March for the 6th edition of live music and wild skiing.

A wide selection of talented French and international artists performing on and off the slopes: rock, pop, hip-hop, disco and electro.

April 2013:

20th to 21st: Primavera des Aficionados - bullfighting in Nîmes

May 2013:

9th-13th: Alès Feria - bullfighting in Alès

This is five days during which Alès is living at the intense rhythm of bodegas, Camargue bull races ( "Trophée des As" prize on Thursday afternoon) and of two "Corridas à pied" (bullfighting during which the torero kills the bull on foot instead of on horseback) planned on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

A "corrida à cheval" (on horseback) is planned on Sunday morning, with Camargue and Spanish horse-riding shows planned for Thursday and Friday on the bullrings.

15th-20th: Feria de Pentecote - Nîmes: concerts, music, bullfighting

The Pentecost Feria attracts nearly a million visitors to Nîmes. This is by far the larger of the two férias Nîmes. Established in 1952, it lasts six days, from Wednesday to Monday of Pentecost, and attracts thousands of visitors. Like the Oktoberfest in Munich, is one of the most popular festivals in Europe.

June 2013:

2nd to 16th: Sheep transhumance in the Lot valley

An unusual and delightful experience.

June-July 2013:

29th June-21st July: Tour de France Cycle Race

Arguably the greatest and most demanding cycle race in the world.

September 2013:

13th-15th: Feria des Vendanges - Nîmes: concerts, music, bullfighting

Established in 1978, and rather more spontaneous than the Feria de Pentecote.
